Dr. Ricks graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. He spent two years practicing in Apex, North Carolina at Apex Veterinary Hospital, until he returned to the lone star state in 2003 to join Harris Equine Hospital in Whitesboro, Texas. While in Whitesboro, Dr. Ricks helped manage mares for several breeding farms in north Texas and southern Oklahoma, and he aided with and performed several thousand successful embryo transfers. He joined the BVEH staff in 2009 and moved to the Stephenville office in 2010.
