Terrell (T-Bone) Buchanan, DVM
|
The
Brazos Valley Equine Hospital (BVEH) was founded by
Dr. Terrell “T-Bone” Buchanan in 1967 as
an equine only medical and surgical
hospital in Navasosta, Texas.
In recognition of the care and expertise provided
over the years,
BVEH has evolved into
a regional hospital for Texas and several other
states. Dr. Buchanan's practice focuses on sports
medicine, dentistry, preventative medicine,
emergencies and general equine medicine surgery.
T-Bone is from Navasota and graduated from Texas A&M
College of Veterinary Medicine. His main interests
are lameness, acupuncture, chiropractics and
diagnostic imaging. T-Bone is a renowned
practitioner and has spoken at numerous
international Equine Sports Medicine conferences.

Charlie Buchanan, DVM
|
Dr.
Charlie Buchanan graduated from Texas A&M College of
Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Upon graduation,
Charlie went straight into practice at BVEH and has
been a key ingredient for BVEH services ever since.
Most recently, Charlie has been designated lead practitioner for
our evolving BVEH satellite office in Stephenville. |

Marty Tanner, DVM
|
Dr.
Tanner graduated from Mississippi State University
College of Veterinary Medicine
in 1986. Before joining BVEH in 2003,
Dr.
Tanner was the lead clinician at Elgin Veterinary
Hospital.
Currently a veterinarian at BVEH, Marty heads a
full-service BVEH satellite clinic in Rockdale and
commutes to BVEH on Tuesdays to
perform surgeries as well as to see clients in the
region. |

Ben Buchanan, DVM,
DACVIM, DACVECC
|
Dr. Ben Buchanan
joined BVEH in December 2005 and is the BVEH
clinician in charge of the intensive care and
internal medicine units. After graduating from the
Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine
in 2001, Ben was selected to perform a one-year
rotating large animal internship at the University
of Tennessee (the other UT) and was asked to
remain for a large animal residency.In 2003, Dr.
Buchanan also began a dual, two-year large animal
equine emergency and critical care residency at the
University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Buchanan is
currently board certified in large animal internal medicine (DACVIM)
and board certified in veterinary emergency and critical
care (DACVECC). Active
association memberships include AAEP, ACVIM, ACVECC,
IVCCCS, TVMA, CGS, AVMA and Phi Zeta (veterinary
honor society. In his short
time at BVEH, Ben has been instrumental in
establishing the new intensive care unit in the
hospital and in recruiting promising veterinarians
for internships and externships. Dr. Buchanan has
also become active in community outreach by speaking
at local meetings and events regarding equine care. |

Wyatt Winchell, DVM, DACVS
|
Dr. Wyatt
Winchell graduate from Colorado State University as
a doctor of veterinary medicine in 1998. Following
graduation, Wyatt completed a surgical residency at
Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. After serving
as surgical resident at Ohio State University, Dr.
Winchell stayed on for an additional year as a
clinical instructor for emergency veterinary
medicine, critical care and orthopedic surgery.
Prior to joining BVEH in December of 2005, Dr.
WInchell was staff surgeon and attending clinician
at Valley View Animal Hospital, a private equine
referral hospital in Dover, Ohio. Wyatt is board
certified in veterinary surgery(DACVS) and is a member of AAEP, ACVS and athe AVMA. Now, serving as one
of the outstanding surgeons on BVEH staff, Wyatt is
dedicated to providing quality care and therapeutics
to BVEH patients.. |

Stephen H. Russell,
DVM |
Dr. Russell is
no stranger to the BVEH-Stephenville office, as he
operated Russell Vet Clinic out of the facility for
22 years. Following his 1976 graduation from Texas A
& M College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Russell
began a one-year large animal internship at Oklahoma
State University. He practiced at Almeda Equine
Clinic in Houston as well as managed a breeding farm
before establishing his own practice. Dr. Russell is
a published author who truly enjoys horses and
practicing veterinary medicine. He hopes to
continue for a few more years before retiring, when
he plans to spend a lot more of his free time
fishing and being around his grandchildren. |

Jay Bickers, DVM |
Dr. Jay Bickers
began working for BVEH at the end of 2006 at the
Stephenville/Morgan Mill office. Upon graduation
from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in
1990, Dr. Bickers worked in private practice for
several years before he accepted a fellowship at
Oregon State University. In 2002, Dr. Bickers became
a board certified large animal surgeon after
completing a three year surgical residency at the
University of Tennessee. While at UT, he also
assisted in developing the Emergency and Critical
Care department as the first emergency clinician.
Certified in veterinary chiropractics, Dr. Bickers
is currently working on acupuncture training. His
clinical interests include lameness, orthopedic
surgery, colic surgery and chiropractics. In his
spare time, he enjoys working with his wife around
their yard/pasture, day work on area ranches,
working with his horse and cow dog, and reading.

Carissa Burleson, DVM
|
Dr. Carissa
Burleson graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor
of Science from Texas A&M University-Commerce in
2002 and then graduated from Texas A&M College of
Veterinary Medicine in 2006. As the newest member
of the BVEH team, Carissa is the field-services and
emergency clinician and will soon be involved with
BVEH equine reproductive services as well. As
a BVEH Associate, Carissa is also building her
expertise via additional courses in equine medicine.
In addition, Dr. Burleson is a member of AAEP and
AQHA.

Petrisor Baia,
DVM
|
A native of Severin, Romania, Calin
became passionate about horses and animals growing
up (his parents still have two horses) and decided o
enter a career in veterinary medicine so he could
feel more connected to them. He completed his
studies at the University of Agricultural Sciences &
Veterinary Medicine - Timisoara - Romania. Three
years ago, Calin came to the United States, looking
for more in-depth exposure and experience with
equines. He is especially interested in equine
surgery. "I'm looking to enhance my knowledge
in surgery, lameness exams, reproductions and in a
new area (for me) - cutting," he said. Interns
don't get a lot of time to themselves, but Calin
enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenny (a native
of Cambodia), riding, and other outdoor activities
when he gets a rare moment off. During his
time in this state, he also hopes to explore and
further his knowledge of Texas. |

Reagan Wizbicki, DVM
|
Dr. Wizbicki is a native of Vancouver
Island, Canada and attended the Western College of
Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as a
member of the class of 2007. Her professional
interests include neonatology, lameness, and
internal medicine. In her spare time, Reagan
enjoys riding reining horses, barrel racing,
competing in triathlons, surfing, and mountain
biking. In the future, Reagan plans to return
to work in British Columbia, but is looking forward
to her time at BVEH. |

Miranda Gosselin,
DVM |
Dr. Gosselin joined the BVEH team
this past April after having been in private
practice for a year. She is originally from
the state of Washington and received her DVM from
WSU in 2006. Her veterinary focus includes equine
reproduction, neonatology and surgery. When Miranda
has free time, she enjoys traveling, skiing,
reading, sailing and spending time with her husband
and animals. She has an extensive ceramic cat
collection. After her year at BVEH, she and
her husband are planning on moving to the Tri-State
area. |

Glenda Pearce
|
Glenda Pearce has been a member of
the BVEH team for the past seven years. She is
the lead technician for BVEH and serves as head of
the Radiology Department and Pharmacy. Glenda
is a central figure in ensuring that the hospital
runs efficiently and effectively. |
